Gulf Region · 6 Destinations

The Gulf — Nepal's largest overseas employment corridor

The six Gulf Co-operation Council nations account for nearly 70% of all Nepali foreign workers. Tax-free salaries, established Nepali communities, direct flights from Tribhuvan International Airport, and mature wage-protection systems (WPS) make the Gulf the natural first choice. The United Arab Emirates alone employs more than 200,000 Nepalis, while Saudi Arabia hosts over 700,000. Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman add hundreds of thousands more. If you are applying for your first overseas job, Gulf countries typically have the shortest processing time — 30 to 45 days from selection to departure.

Europe · 13 Destinations

Europe — rising wages, residency rights, and the Schengen gateway

European destinations pay some of the highest wages accessible to Nepali workers — Poland's factory minimum exceeds NPR 110,000/month, and Germany's Blue Card holders can earn NPR 250,000–600,000/month. More importantly, Europe offers something no Gulf country does: a legal pathway to permanent residency and, eventually, citizenship. Since Romania joined Schengen in 2024 and Croatia adopted the Euro in 2023, Central and Eastern Europe have become full EU-mobility destinations. English-friendly countries like Malta and the UK reduce the language barrier, while Poland and Romania offer sheer volume — thousands of vacancies in manufacturing, logistics and construction.

Asia · 6 Destinations

Asia — government-to-government programmes and world-class wages

Asia's standout destinations for Nepali workers are South Korea and Japan — both running transparent government-to-government programmes with mandatory wage parity laws. South Korea's EPS E-9 is arguably the world's fairest migration programme: open application via DOFE, Korean language test, wage equality with local workers, and full National Health Insurance. Japan's Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa expanded to 16 sectors in 2024. Malaysia remains the most accessible Asian destination by entry cost, with 500,000+ Nepalis already working there. Singapore and Israel round out the region for skilled workers and caregivers respectively.

Other Destinations

Other destinations — Maldives, Hong Kong, and beyond

Glocal Workforce Nepal also places workers in destinations outside the main Gulf, Europe and Asia corridors. The Maldives offers USD-tipped hospitality work just five hours from Kathmandu — ideal for trained resort professionals. Hong Kong has a multi-generational Nepali community (a legacy of British Gurkha service) with strong worker protections and English-language workplaces. We continuously evaluate new countries as demand develops.

We evaluate new markets every year based on demand, worker safety and wage standards. Our current portfolio spans Gulf, Europe and Asia — and we reject markets that do not meet our ethical standards.

Offices where you need them

Our main office is in Battishputali, Kathmandu — open Sunday–Friday, 9:30 AM–6 PM. A UAE representative office handles Gulf employer relations and worker-support cases from Dubai.

Overview

Understanding overseas employment from Nepal

Nepal sends approximately 500,000 workers overseas each year through the Department of Foreign Employment (DOFE). Foreign remittances account for roughly 27% of Nepal's GDP — a figure that underscores the economic importance of well-managed, ethical overseas employment.

The process is regulated. Every recruitment agency must hold a valid DOFE licence. Every demand letter must be attested by both the sending and receiving governments. Every worker must receive a pre-departure orientation and a Labour Permit from DOFE before boarding a flight. Glocal Workforce Nepal (Lic. No. 1722/081/082) has operated under this framework since 2000.

On this site you will find honest, up-to-date information for each of our 28 destination countries: real salary ranges drawn from active contracts, visa-process timelines, cost-of-living estimates in NPR, worker-rights summaries, and the specific DOFE steps your deployment will follow. Key things to know

Before you pick a destination

  • Match your skills first, salary second

Korea and Japan pay the highest wages but require language tests and trade tests. Gulf countries offer faster deployment for construction, driving and hospitality roles. Choose based on what you are qualified for today.

  • Check the DOFE-approved agency list

Only use agencies listed on the DOFE portal. Free-visa, free-ticket offers from unlicensed agents are the number-one source of fraud. All our placements appear on the DOFE system.

  • Understand total cost before signing

DOFE sets maximum service-charge limits by country. Use our DOFE Fee Estimator to see an itemised breakdown of legitimate costs — medical, visa, trade test, PDO and agency fee.

  • Know your rights from day one

Your contract must be in a language you understand, attested by both embassies. You are entitled to the salary stated, a weekly rest day, paid annual leave, and end-of-service benefits. Read our Worker Rights guide before you depart.

  • Plan for return, not just departure

The most successful overseas workers have a savings goal and a return plan. Use our Salary Calculator to model how long you need to reach your target and how much you can remit each month.
